About twenty years ago, bankers in the US were handing out risky loans to applicants who might not otherwise qualify for a home mortgage. In their zeal, they gave a construction loan to my husband Clay and I. We built a house on an undesirable 7-acre tract 15 minutes outside of town. We called that little patch of heaven The Newcomb Farm.

There was no water, no electricity, no animals, no garden, no house. It was a blank canvas for our 5-year-old marriage, brand new business, two children, and a whole bunch of dreams.

On the front porch of that house, we had a lot of conversations, said a lot of prayers, and cried a lot of tears as we navigated all the decisions a family makes while raising four kids, launching their careers, and pursuing the purposes of God for their home.

In 2024, I started writing some of the perspectives I formed throughout my journey as a working mother. I hope to provide insight for people who are raising their kids and building their homes in a world fraught with complexities that didn’t exist a generation ago. I offer the perspective of a woman who examines world events, social sciences, and family life from a faith-based lens. I’m interested in building the architecture of our home and my life in alignment with its original divine design.
